“Podcasting” is the generic term for audio made available on websites which when downloaded is playable either on a computer or a portable audio device. Anyone with a computer and a microphone can create a podcast. Podcasts are available on almost any subject. Every day the total number of podcasts available online increases. The quality of podcasts, however, can vary enormously in content, editing and sound. On August 1st 2008, nineteen of the top twenty podcasts on “Itunes” where produced and run by existing media companies.
This shows that the most successful podcasts are created by people with an existing knowledge of content requirement and recording experience; usually those who work within the broadcast media.
